Fragaria vesca
Overview

Fragaria vesca, the woodland strawberry, is a wild variety of strawberries.
While highly similar to commercially cultivated strawberries,
it has a diploid genome and thus is simpler to sequence and study.
The main goal of sequencing strawberry, as for its nearest sequenced neighbor apple,
is to assist breeders to develop novel, more resistant and better tasting cultivars faster.
