- Description Encodes a bifunctional enzyme required for thiamine (vitamin B1) biosynthesis. TH1 can phosphorylate HMP-P to produce HMP-PP, the pyrimidine heterocyclic subunit of thiamine. TH1 also catalyzes the condensation of HMP-PP and HET to form thiamine monophosphate (TMP).
