Manihot esculenta
Overview
Manihot esculenta , commonly known as cassava or manioc, is a
cultivated crop species in tropical and subtropical regions. Native to South
America, the edible roots of the crop are now used as a source of carbohydrates
in many parts of the world. Sequencing was done using 454 technology. According
to the JGI source, 416Mb of the estimated 760Mb of the genome have been
sequenced, with approximately 47000 predicted protein coding loci.
