Carica papaya

Overview

Carica papaya is a tropical plant, the version sequenced is actually a transgenetic strain called “ SunUp ” papaya. Making this the first sequenced transgenetic plant. Unlike many of the plants indigenous to Hawaii papaya had no evidence of additional whole genome duplications. This allowed plant researchers to unambiguously place the duplications in Arabidopsis thaliana and popular onto the phylogenetic tree.
