Abstract
This entry represents a group of DNA binding proteins, known as SBP (SQUAMOSA-PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN) family. They are putative transcription factors characterised by a highly conserved SBP-box of 76 amino acids involved in DNA binding and nuclear localisation [ 1 ]. They are involved in the control of early flower development [ 2 ].
1. SQUAMOSA-PROMOTER BINDING PROTEIN 1 initiates flowering in Antirrhinum majus through the activation of meristem identity genes. Plant J. 62, 704-12
2. A new family of DNA binding proteins includes putative transcriptional regulators of the Antirrhinum majus floral meristem identity gene SQUAMOSA. Mol. Gen. Genet. 250, 7-16
