Abstract
This entry includes a group of transcriptional corepressors, including LEUNIG (LUG) and LUH from Arabidopsis. They are similar to the animal and fungal Gro/Tup1-type corepressors [ 1 ]. LUG is a transcription repressor subunit of the SEU-LUG transcriptional corepressor of the C class floral homeotic gene AGAMOUS during the early stages of floral meristem development [ 2 ]. LUH has been shown to activate MYC2-directed transcription of JAZ2 and LOX2 via the Mediator complex coactivator and the histone acetyltransferase HAC1 [ 3 ]. Both LUG and LUH contain the N-terminal LUFS domain, which is essential for the direct interaction with its cofactor SEUSS [ 4 ]. LUH and LUG exhibit both redundant and divergent functions in embryonic development, floral homeotic gene regulation, and plant biotic and abiotic stress responses [ 5 ].
