Abstract

This entry includes protein PELPK1/2 from Arabidopsis thaliana. PELPK1 (also known as Proline-rich protein 10, At5g09530) has been previously annotated as a cell wall protein despite it lacks any motifs typical of major groups of cell wall protein. It contains 36 repeats of a unique pentapeptide (Pro-Glu-Leu|Ile|Val-Pro-Lys), named the PELPK motif [ 1 ], which is also found in proteins from many other angiosperms. During development, this protein is expressed in mature vasculature of roots and in the seed coat or endosperm of developing seeds, required for germination and growth [ 2 ]. Further analyses determined that it is actually located in the cell wall, being part part of the hydroxyproline-rich glycoprotein (HRGP) super-family of cell wall proteins [ 2 ].

This entry also includes some uncharacterised proteins from bacteria, animals and fungi.
