Abstract
This entry contains proteins with WD40 repeats and includes protein transport protein SEC31, which is a component of the coat protein complex II (COPII). COPII promotes the formation of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum by deformating the endoplasmic reticulum membrane into vesicles and selectiing cargo molecules [ 1 ]. In humans and other mammals, there are two SEC31 proteins known as SEC31A and SEC31B [ 2 ].
1. Sec31 encodes an essential component of the COPII coat required for transport vesicle budding from the endoplasmic reticulum. Mol. Biol. Cell 8, 205-17
2. Mammalian homologues of yeast sec31p. An ubiquitously expressed form is localized to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) exit sites and is essential for ER-Golgi transport. J. Biol. Chem. 275, 13597-604
