Abstract

This domain superfamily is found in a large number of proteins including magnesium dependent endonucleases and phosphatases involved in intracellular signalling [ 1 ]. This domain is found in many proteins including AP endonuclease proteins (DNA-(apurinic or apyrimidinic site) lyase 4.2.99.18 ), deoxyribonuclease-1 (DNase I; 3.1.21.1 ), synaptojanin an inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate phosphatase ( 3.1.3.56 ) and sphingomyelinase ( 3.1.4.12 ).

The DNase I domain structure contains a beta-sandwich fold and a duplication of the alpha+beta motif.
