Abstract
This entry represents the VPRBP/DCAF1 family, whose members include protein VPRBP from mammals [ 1 ], protein mahjong form fruit flies [ 2 ] and DCAF1 from worms and plants [ 3 ]. They are the substrate recognition component of the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex.
Human VPRBP is part of the CUL4A-RBX1-DDB1-DCAF1/VPRBP complex that mediates ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation of proteins [ 4 ]. VPRBP also has kinase activity and is capable of phosphorylating histone H2A on threonine 120 (H2AT120p) in a nucleosomal context [ 5 ].
