This entry represents a group of long-chain-alcohol O-fatty-acyltransferases (wax synthases) from flowering plants. The enzyme from Jojoba has been characterised and catalyses the final step in the synthesis of long-chain linear esters (waxes) [ 1 ]. This family also includes acyl-CoA--sterol O-acyltransferase (ASAT1, AT3G51970), a membrane-bound O-acyltransferase involved in the esterification of cycloartenol [ 2 ].
