This entry represents the solute carrier family 40 member 1 family of proteins, also known as Ferroportin 1. It is thought to be involved in iron export from duodenal epithelial cells and also in transfer of iron between maternal and fetal circulation. This family of proteins is known to be localised in the basolateral membrane of polarized epithelial cells [ 1 ].
