InterPro domain: IPR005900

General Information

  • Identifier IPR005900
  • Description 6-phosphogluconolactonase, DevB-type

Abstract

6-phospho-D-glucono-1,5-lactone + H2O = 6-phospho-D-gluconate. This entry refers to the DevB type of 6-phosphogluconolactonase.

6-phosphogluconolactonases (6PGL) 3.1.1.31 , which hydrolyses 6-phosphogluconolactone to 6-phosphogluconate is one of the enzymes in the pentose phosphate pathway. Two families of structurally dissimilar 6PGLs are known to exist: the Escherichia coli (strain K12) YbhE IPR022528 [ 1 ] and the Pseudomonas aeruginosa DevB IPR005900 [ 2 ] types.

1. Identification of the Escherichia coli K-12 ybhE gene as pgl, encoding 6-phosphogluconolactonase. J. Bacteriol. 186, 8248-53
2. The Pseudomonas aeruginosa devB/SOL homolog, pgl, is a member of the hex regulon and encodes 6-phosphogluconolactonase. J. Bacteriol. 182, 3934-41
