Description

rpa-1 encodes the C. elegans ortholog of the replication protein A (RPA) large subunit; by homology, RPA-1 is predicted to function as a DNA-binding and oligonucleotide oligosaccharide-binding (OB) protein that is required for DNA replication, repair, and recombination; large-scale RNAi screens indicate that rpa-1 is essential for embryonic development, and that in yeast two-hybrid assays interacts with the product of M04F3.1, the RPA medium subunit; in situ hybridization studies indicate that rpa-1 transcripts are expressed in germ cells.
