- cpb-2 encodes a cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding (CPEB) protein homolog, expressed specifically in the spermatogenic germ line; CPB-2 is dispensable for oogenesis, in contrast to CPEBs in vertebrates (Xenopus), arthropods (Drosophila), and molluscs (Spisula), which all participate in oogenesis.
