This family of uncharacterized proteins from plants includes protein FERTILITY RESTORER RF2 (RF2) and protein YELLOW LEAF 1 (YL1) from Oryza sativa. RF2 is a mitochondrial glycine-rich protein that can restore fertility in rice varieties with LD-type cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) [ 1 ]. YL1 is required for photosynthetic protein complex assembly in chloroplast thylakoid membranes during leaf development [ 2 ].
