Abstract
This entry includes Vps71 from yeasts and ZNHIT1 (also known as Hamlet or p18) from animals.
The evolutionarily conserved histone variant H2A.Z antagonizes the spread of heterochromatin (mediated by Sir2 and Sir3), therefore acting as an anti-silencing factor. Vps71 is the nucleosome-binding component of the SWR1 complex, which replaces conventional histone H2A in nucleosomes with histone H2A.Z [ 1 , 2 ].
ZNHIT1 is part of the SNF2-related CBP activator protein (SRCAP) complex, which is a Swr1-like complex that regulates H2A.Z deposition in cells [ 3 ].
