Abstract
Hydratase 2 (2-enoyl-CoA hydratase 2, (R)-specific 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase) catalyzes reversibly the addition of water to the beta-carbon of trans-2-enoyl-CoA. In eukaryotes hydratase 2 is apart of multifunctional enzyme (peroxisomal multifunctional enzyme type 2) [ 1 ]. The overall structure of the two-domain subunit of eukaryotic 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase 2 resembles the homodimeric structures of prokaryotic (R)-specific 2-enoyl-CoA hydratase and beta-hydroxydecanoyl thiol ester dehydrase. Divergence in eukaryotes has led to two distinct domains [ 2 ], this one and the MaoC-like dehydratase domain ( IPR002539 ).
