Abstract

Homologues of the DNA-repair protein RAD52 are present in all plants. There are two identified RAD52 genes in Arabidopsis thaliana (RAD52-1 and RAD52-2), which encode four open reading frames (ORFs) through differential splicing, each of which specifically localized to the nucleus, mitochondria, or chloroplast, which suggests a role in maintaining nuclear and organellar genomes. The diverse plant RAD52 proteins affect DNA repair and fertility [ 1 ].
