Abstract
The plant drug/metabolite exporter (DME) family consists of a group of plant WAT1 (walls are thin1)-related proteins. They contain the EamA domains that can be found in some drug/metabolite exporters in bacteria. Arabidopsis WAT1 is required for secondary cell-wall deposition [ 1 , 2 ], and conferred broad-spectrum resistance to vascular pathogens [ 3 ]. Auxin-induced protein 5NG4, another member of the family, is a putative transmembrane protein that is differentially expressed in mature and juvenile-phase shoots [ 4 ].
1. Light-regulated compensation of wat1 (walls are thin1) growth and secondary cell wall phenotypes is auxin-independent. Plant Signal Behav
2. Walls are thin 1 (WAT1), an Arabidopsis homolog of Medicago truncatula NODULIN21, is a tonoplast-localized protein required for secondary wall formation in fibers. Plant J.
3. Arabidopsis wat1 (walls are thin1)-mediated resistance to the bacterial vascular pathogen, Ralstonia solanacearum, is accompanied by cross-regulation of salicylic acid and tryptophan metabolism. Plant J. 218, 916-27
4. An auxin-inducible gene from loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) is differentially expressed in mature and juvenile-phase shoots and encodes a putative transmembrane protein. Planta 5, 1302-4
