Trichome birefringence-like (TBL) proteins are proposed to encode wall poly-saccharide specific O-acetyltransferases based on the existing data for the two characterised members of the TBL family: altered xyloglucan 4 (AXY4/TBL270) (see IPR029963 ) and altered xyloglucan 4-like (AXY4L/TBL22) [ 1 , 2 ]. AXY4L or trichome birefringence-like 22 (TBL22) is a xyloglucan specific O-acetyltransferase in seeds [ 3 ].
