Abstract

SMG8 is involved in nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stop codons. In humans, it is a component of the SMG1C complex composed of SMG1, SMG8 and SMG9 [ 1 ]. SMG-8 can recruit SMG-1 to the mRNA surveillance complex and can regulate the kinase activity of SMG-1 [ 2 ].
