Abstract

Serine/threonine-protein kinase Bud32 is conserved from Archaea to human. In many Archaeal genomes, Kae1 and Bud32 are fused [ 1 ]. The complex is homologous to the Kae1 and Bud32 subunits of the eukaryotic KEOPS complex (composed of Bud32, Kae1, Cgi121, Pcc1 and Gon7), an apparently ancient protein kinase-containing molecular machine that is essential for t6A tRNA modification [ 2 , 3 ].
