This family consists of the type III isozyme of glutamine synthetase (GS), originally described in Rhizobium meliloti (Sinorhizobium meliloti), where types I and II also occur [ 1 ]. This family also includes the GSIII-like protein gamma-glutamylmethylamide synthetase, also known as glutamate--methylamine ligase [ 2 ].
