Abstract

Zeta-carotene desaturase (also known as carotene 7,8-desaturase) catalyses multiple steps in the pathway from geranylgeranyl-PP to all-trans-lycopene in plants and cyanobacteria. A similar enzyme and pathway is found in the green sulphur bacterium Chlorobium tepidum.
