Abstract

This entry includes a group of meiosis specific proteins, including Spo22 from budding yeasts, ZIP4 from plants and TEX11 from mammals. They play an important role in normal crossover formation and meiotic chromosome segregation [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Impairment of these functions results in meiosis I (MI) segregation defect [ 4 ].

1. Homologous chromosome pairing is completed in crossover defective atzip4 mutant. Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 370, 98-103
2. The meiosis-specific zip4 protein regulates crossover distribution by promoting synaptonemal complex formation together with zip2. Dev. Cell 10, 809-19
3. ZIP4H (TEX11) deficiency in the mouse impairs meiotic double strand break repair and the regulation of crossing over. PLoS Genet. 4, e1000042
