Abstract

This entry includes Hsk3, Hos3 and Golgin-45.

Hsk3 is a subunit of the DASH complex, which is a ~10 subunit microtubule-binding complex that is transferred to the kinetochore prior to mitosis [ 1 ]. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae DASH forms both rings and spiral structures on microtubules in vitro [ 2 , 3 ]. This family also includes several higher eukaryotic proteins. However, other DASH subunits do not appear to be conserved in higher eukaryotes.

Golgin-45 is required for normal Golgi structure and for protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) through the Golgi apparatus to the cell surface. It interacts with GORASP2 and with the GTP-bound form of RAB2, but not with other Golgi Rab proteins [ 4 ].

Hos3 (High osmolarity sensitivity protein 3) may play a role in the progression of mitosis in an environment of high osmotic stress [ 5 ].
