This family consists of the wound-inducible basic proteins from plants. The metabolic activities of plants are dramatically altered upon mechanical injury or pathogen attack. A large number of proteins accumulates at wound or infection sites, such as the wound-inducible basic proteins. These proteins are small, 47 amino acids in length, has no signal peptides and are hydrophilic and basic [ 1 ].
