Abstract
This enzyme acts in the biosynthesis of histidine and has been characterised in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [ 1 ] and Arabidopsis [ 2 ] where it complements the Escherichia coli HisA gene. In eukaryotes the gene is known as His6. In bacteria, this gene is found in Fibrobacter succinogenes(Bacteroides succinogenes), presumably due to lateral gene transfer from plants in the rumen gut.
