Abstract
SET domain methyltransferases can be involved both in translational and transcriptional roles. N-lysine methyltransferase SETD6 is a SET domain protein that specifically monomethylates 'Lys-310' of the RELA subunit of NF-kappa-B complex, leading to down-regulation of NF-kappa-B transcription factor activity [ 1 ]. Homologues in yeast monomethylate 60S ribosomal protein L42 (RPL42A and RPL42B) at 'Lys-55' [ 2 , 3 ].
