General Information

  • Identifier IPR010253
  • Description Geranylgeranyl reductase, plant/prokaryotic

Abstract

This entry represents a group of geranylgeranyl reductases specific for the biosyntheses of bacteriochlorophyll and chlorophyll [ 1 ]. It is unclear whether the processes of isoprenoid ligation to the chlorin ring and reduction of the geranylgeranyl chain to a phytyl chain are necessarily ordered the same way in all species (see introduction to [ 2 ]).

2. Reduced activity of geranylgeranyl reductase leads to loss of chlorophyll and tocopherol and to partially geranylgeranylated chlorophyll in transgenic tobacco plants expressing antisense RNA for geranylgeranyl reductase Plant Physiol. 120, 695-704
