General Information

  • Identifier IPR006813
  • Description Glycosyl transferase, family 17

Abstract

This family represents beta-1,4-mannosyl-glycoprotein beta-1,4-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase ( 2.4.1.144 ). This enzyme transfers the bisecting GlcNAc to the core mannose of complex N-glycans. The addition of this residue is regulated during development and has functional consequences for receptor signalling, cell adhesion, and tumour progression [ 1 , 2 ].

1. Truncated, inactive N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase III (GlcNAc-TIII) induces neurological and other traits absent in mice that lack GlcNAc-TIII. J. Biol. Chem. 277, 26300-9
2. A catalytically inactive beta 1,4-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase III (GnT-III) behaves as a dominant negative GnT-III inhibitor. Eur. J. Biochem. 269, 193-201
