Abstract
Asparate racemases ( 5.1.1.13 ) and some close homologues of function are related to the more common glutamate racemases, but form a distinct evolutionary branch [ 1 ]. Members of this family are the aspartate racemase-related subset of amino acid racemases. Aspartate racemases act as homodimers and catalyse the conversion of L-aspartate to D-aspartate. The structure of aspartate racemase from Pyrococcus horikoshii has been solved [ 2 ].
