UDP-Glycosyltransferase superfamily protein UGT72E2 is an UDPG:coniferyl alcohol glucosyltransferase which glucosylates sinapyl- and coniferyl aldehydes as well as sinapyl- and coniferyl alcohol. The enzyme is thought to be involved in lignin metabolism. A knockdown mutant line (72E2KD) was obtained using RNAi silencing. A twofold reduction in coniferyl alcohol 4-%3Ci%3EO%3C/i%3E-glucoside and sinapyl alcohol 4-%3Ci%3EO%3C/i%3E-glucoside was detected in this line compared to wildtype.
