Picea abies

The Norwegian spruce is part of the conifer family of trees. The large economical and ecological interests of the gymnosperms provide the necessary incentive to try and tackle these complext genomes, which are markedly different from leaf-bearing species due to their massive size and huge amount of (retro) transposons.
