Triticum aestivum

Bread wheat is one of the most (if not THE most) important crop species in the world. A type of cereal grain cultivated for human and animal consumption, it was first domesticated over 5000 years ago. The high complexity of the hexaploid genome hindered its sequencing until the arrival of newer long-read technologies.
